Giela Urban Park
The starting point for this project is to create a flexible and adaptable mesh that “land’s” in the territory, adapting itself to the morphology of the land and originating a net of routes throughout the area of intervention.
All the requested program is aggregated to this mesh of routes, allowing their integration with a spatial coherence that gives unity to the whole project – inhabited pathways.
As a poetic reference to a manual work normally performed by children, the paper cut-outs – when using a single sheet of paper, we fold it in zig-zag, cut out a subject and finally unfold it – we define volumetric stripes and hold them to the mesh of paths. This way, we have the volumes adjacent to the routes that speak its own language. These have rotation and bending points to achieve maximum flexibility and adaptation to the territory.
In order to achieve a solid working base which continues with the unity of the whole project, was defined a rectangular “device” with the plant dimensions of 20 x 9 m – and to ensure a better fit, this is subdivided into five devices of 9 x 4m. This definition allowed us to implement the idea that “from a catalog, you can purchase your interior.” In short, we compose the territory with modular volumes that have a strong harmony between each other but that may also be different, thus ensuring the unity and diversity simultaneously.
