Europan 7 – Vila do Conde 1st prize

The design’s structure goes by the definition of a vast green multifunctional space; this space is punctuated by some public buildings, establishing at the same time a connection between metro stations; its extension in the shape of “arms” is diluted with the existing road system.
The public space arises as a succession of squares along the streets, creating a varied an rhythmic street shape. These “niches” where construction is concentrated, are used to create the necessary space for the implantation of buildings with some height.
The proposed buildings alternate between the affirmative building with some height, that comes like the extension in the height of the squares, and those who are more in the context (commerce and public buildings) who will punctuate and generate movement on streets, squares and plazas.
The proposed housing, seeks to solve the indefinition/wideness of the program (problems like permanent or seasonal residence, the transition between the rural and the urban and the difficulty in establishing an inhabitant-type for an area of these characteristics). The presented solution goes for an adaptable and flexible dwelling that is able not only to respond to this questions but also to assume shapes that could benefit from the land and establish several kinds of relations with the neighbouring buildings and the near territory. For this effect we thought of a modular system (6m x 6m) of versatile association, that can guarantee the constitution of infinite house types.
