Cláudio Vilarinho nasce em Guimarães, no ano de 1977.

Desde 1999 e ainda enquanto estudante, dá início a colaborações em diversos ateliers de Arquitectura, nomeadamente Carvalho Araújo – Arquitectura e Design Lda.

Em 2002, licencia-se em Arquitectura pela Universidade do Minho, obtendo em todos os anos lectivos, um prémio de mérito atribuído pela mesma Universidade. Em 2001 como co-autor, obtém o 1º Prémio Universidade no “11º Concurso Ibérico Pladur”, como consequência representa a sua Universidade numa exposição em Madrid, Espanha. Por sua vez, no último ano de curso, obtém uma bolsa Socrates-Erasmus para frequentar a École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Suíça. Novamente bolseiro, desta vez pela Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, ETSA, Espanha, conclui em 2007 o Master’s in Collective Housing; tendo como professores os melhores arquitectos e especialistas internacionais nesta matéria, entre diversos workshops realizados, obteve conhecimentos de Sustentabilidade e Projectos Bioclimáticos, de Habitação de custos controlados, de programas contemporâneos orientados para o Turismo, de Promoção e Gestão de terrenos e edifícios, de Construção e Tecnologia de ponta, de Sociologia, de Economia, de Política da habitação etc.

Como co-autor, em 2003, obtém o 1º prémio no concurso internacional de Arquitectura para jovens Arquitectos “Europan 7 – Vila do Conde”.

Em 2005 estabelece-se como profissional autónomo, em regime de freelancer, criando o seu próprio atelier. Esta estrutura multidisciplinar, flexível e aberta, que leva a cabo todo o tipo de intervenções no campo da Arquitectura e do Design, tem obtido diversas distinções, nomeadamente: o Prémio Mobilidade 2007 (atribuído à proposta de um edifício de habitação colectiva para seniores); o 1º prémio no concurso Uniscala ’09, o 1º prémio no concurso para a Exposição no Museu da Electricidade para a Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa 2010 e o 1º prémio no concurso para o Instituto de Bio-Sustentabilidade na Universidade do Minho no Campus de Azurém, Guimarães.

Desde 2008, Cláudio Vilarinho tem vindo a ser pontualmente convidado para a actividade académica, por exemplo como crítico convidado ou professor/coordenador, no workshop pH04 – paisajes Habitados (Galiza – Espanha).

Como destaques adicionais, regista-se o facto de em 2007 Newitalianblood.com ter seleccionado o atelier para o TOP 10 dos arquitectos emergentes em Portugal; de igual modo, como representante de Portugal, em 30 seleccionados a nível internacional, a revista Wallpaper* insere o atelier no seu directório de arquitetos emergentes 2010.

Em Julho de 2010 a convite da editora italiana Casa editrice Libria, o atelier vê publicada a sua primeira monografia, intitulada PRIMI PROGETTI CLÁUDIO VILARINHO.

Por último, desde 2012 Cláudio Vilarinho complementa a sua atividade no atelier com a aquisição de conhecimento arquitetónico em âmbito internacional. Esta estratégia, iniciada em Londres, no presente contribui para a taxa de exportações de Portugal, está localizada em contexto germânico, e centrada na colaboração com o Grupo Baumschlager & Eberle.

Cláudio Vilarinho was born in Guimarães, Portugal, in the year of 1977.

Since 1999 and as a student, he began to collaborate with several architecture studios.

In 2002, he finished the Architecture Degree by the “Universidade do Minho” and has been awarded every year for his best academic results. In 2001, working as a co-author, he won the 1st Prize at the “11º Concurso Ibérico Pladur, Unidad Habitacional para Intervenciones de Urgencia”, and as a result went to Madrid on behalf of his team for the public Exhibition. He was also awarded with a Socrates-Erasmus scholarship for studying at the “École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne”, Switzerland.

Once again he was awarded a scholarship to study at “Universidad Politécnica de Madrid – Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura”, in Spain, where he concluded in 2007 the Master‘s Degree in Collective Housing. His teachers were the best architects and international experts on this subject and the several workshops he realised gave him some knowledge on Sustainability and Bioclimatic Projects, Housing, controlled costs and contemporary programs linked to Tourism, Land Promotion and Management, Construction and Technology, Sociology, Economy, Housing policy, etc.

In 2003, also as a co-author, he has been awarded with the 1st Prize on the international architectural competition for young architects “Europan 7 – Vila do Conde, Portugal”.

In 2005 he sets as an autonomous professional, creating his own studio as a flexible and opened multidisciplinary structure. This studio, with Architecture and Design interventions, has received several distinctions, including: the Mobility Award 2007 (awarded for the design of a collective housing building for the elderly); the 1st prize in the Uniscala ’09 competition; the 1st prize in the Exhibition space competition for the Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2010 and the 1st prize in the Engineering Research Institute competition, for the Universtity of Minho at the Campus of Azurém, Guimarães, Portugal.

Since 2008, Cláudio Vilarinho has been invited to be part of academic activities. As an example he was teacher-coordinator at the “pH04 – paisajes Habitados” workshops (Galicia, Spain).

As additional highlights, there is the fact that in 2007 Newitalianblood.com has selected the studio for the TOP 10 portuguese emergent architects; likewise, representing Portugal, the studio has been one of the 30 internationally selected for the 2010 Wallpaper* Architects Directory.

In July 2010, following the invitation from the italian publishers Casa editrice Libria, the studio had its first monograph,PRIMI PROGETTI CLÁUDIO VILARINHO.

Finally, since 2012 Cláudio Vilarinho complements the activity of the studio with the acquisition of knowledge in international context. This strategy, started in London, contributes to the rate of Portugal exports, is located in the German context, and focused on collaboration with the Baumschlager & Eberle Group.
