Day 2: almost

Model for competition

The model should be finished next Tuesday; we still have to glue some volumes and to cut the rest of the streets.

One of the other tasks scheduled for today is to solve a small configuration issue of this daily blog – even though it’s a small task, it will take some time.

In December of 2010, among the 176 projects that participate in the international architecture competition of the Medina of Fez in Morocco, we knew that we weren’t on the first eight, in other words, we didn’t pass the first stage – the stage where we would know the winner. Today, we found out that, in that first stage, we went through all the rounds, however, our project was the 9th classified … so close! The jury gave us a runner-up title, but as we didn’t pass to the second stage, we didn’t win the 30.000€, which could’ve been the highest amount of money entering the office just in one row. Christmas came along.

At the end of the day, good news arrived, news that filled us with joy! After winning the first prize for the first stage of a competition for the new Institute of Engineering at the Azurém Campus of the Minho University in Guimarães with a score of 4.1 in 5, and far away from the second classified with 2.6, there was still missing a second phase so that we could win the project – fees and execution deadlines. If we had the best score we could win … and so it happened! This will be our first public building and the University of Minho will have a former student as the author of the architecture project.
